Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)

 

It is a genetically inherited kidney disease that causes multiple cysts to form in both kidneys.  Initial testing will involve radiological imaging, blood and urine tests.  PKD will cause kidney function to decline over time in varying rates among those with this condition.  Strict control of blood pressure and other methods can slow the size of cyst growth.  It is important to see a nephrologist to discuss methods for diagnosis and treatment of PKD.
